Obama Talks Up Wind Power: Earth Day 2009.

obama signs wind turbineNEWTON, Iowa - President Obama joined employees at a green manufacturing company to observe how they build wind power generating machines.

On his first trip back to Iowa since being elected, Obama stated his commitment to reducing the nations dependency on foreign oil - which will hopefully reduce the depletion of the worlds oil reserves.

During his speech to an invitation crowd of 200 in a former Maytag plant, Obama said that the countries who are first to develop viable renewable energy will also be the leader of the 21st century economy.

Employees saw Obamas visit as his way to give them a pat on the back for developing new clean energy technology, as well as giving them motivation to continue their efforts.

“This plant is living off the terrific growth the industry saw in 2006, ’07, ’08,” Abate said. “There’s a significant backlog, but the urgency is now because new projects aren’t starting. To get those projects to be started, the stimulus money needs to flow.”

If Congress adopts an alternative/renewable energy standard, it is probable that renewable energies could power 20% of the US by 2030. That said, he stated that in order for them to deliver wind power on such a high scale would require them to make 1 new wind turbine every 15 minutes for 20 years. Abate said that for in order for companies to take on such a large project, they will need economic stimulus funding.
