He said, "Our research demonstrates that with proper political support and investment, previous notions that renewable and alternative energy would only be limited to a fraction of the world demand were wrong."

Previous renewable energy projections placed only a 12 percent share of the worlds energy production by 2030. Other research within the congress session supports the viability of renewables. They examined the limitations of current renewable energy sources like wind, biofuels, and biomass.

Erik Petersen of Risoe DTU's Wind Energy Department states that for wind power industry to deliver at its full potential, companies must focus on developing efficiency, installing more wind power generators to the grid, and put strong emphasis on reliability and availability.

In the biofules and biomass fields, research conducted by Jeanette Whitaker of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in the UK, found that biofuels like ethanol from wood crops had a much lower energy requirement and gas emissions than first generation biofuels. First generation biofuels are ethanol made from food like wheat and sugar beat.

She stated that "These findings are important and relevant because current debate has centered on the issue of competing need of food versus fuel"
